Role & Responsibilities
The Lead Solutions Architect plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing scalable, high-performance eCommerce solutions that meet our business objectives and delight our customers. They are Client-Facing and will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and drive the architectural vision for our eCommerce platform.
- Client Onboarding: During and after onboarding, they will closely collaborate with stakeholders to understand business goals, requirements, and priorities for the eCommerce platform.
- They are always listening and come to all meetings prepared to ask questions and identify risks.
- They thoroughly review Client documentation.
- Data Modeling & Mapping: They will design schemas that accurately represent the business's requirements while also considering factors like performance, security, and flexibility. They establish how data will flow between different systems (e-commerce platforms, PIMs, CRMs, ERPs etc.), applications, and components. They map out the relationships between data entities, identifying data sources and destinations, and designing the transformations necessary to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and integrity across the entire eCommerce platform.

- Site Architecture & 3rd Party Integration Planning: They lead the evaluation and selection of technology stacks, frameworks, and tools to support eCommerce initiatives, considering factors such as scalability, performance, security, and cost-effectiveness.
- They conduct thorough research to identify third-party solutions and technologies that align with project requirements and client objectives.
- Develop integration plans outlining the implementation process, data flows, and dependencies between third-party systems and existing infrastructure.
- They design end-to-end solutions architecture for eCommerce applications, including front-end interfaces, back-end systems, databases, and integrations with third-party services.
- They develop technical specifications, architecture diagrams, and documentation to communicate design decisions and guide implementation efforts.
- They support the integration of warehouse management systems with e-commerce platforms to optimize inventory management and order fulfillment processes.
- Platform Migration Planning & Management: They develop comprehensive plans for migrating e-commerce platforms, ensuring seamless transition and minimal disruption to operations. They collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to define migration requirements, timelines, and needs. They identify and mitigate risks associated with platform migration, ensuring data integrity and security throughout the process. Their Migrations plans account for:
- Product Data Migration: Strategize and execute the transfer of product data, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Imagery Migration: Manage the migration of product images, optimizing format and metadata.
- Redirect Strategy: Implement URL redirects to preserve SEO and user experience.
- Data Cleanup and Transformation: Identify & communicate data clean-up needs and standardize data for improved quality.
- Order History Migration: Migrate customer order history securely, maintaining accuracy and accessibility.
- User Data Migration: Transfer user accounts and data securely, complying with privacy regulations.
- Page Content Data Migration: Collaborates with management to ensure they are properly transferring page content data in the new CMS.
- Gift Cards & Discount Codes: Strategize and execute the transfer of existing Gift Cards and Discount codes, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Reviews & Subscriptions: Facilitates and oversees data transfer executed by 3rd party Apps.
- Testing and Validation: Create a thorough testing plan in collaboration with the merchant.
- Rollback and Contingency Planning: Establish procedures for handling migration failures and emergencies.
- Development Liaison: They serve as the primary point of contact between the project team and the development team during implementation phases.
- They draft formal Handoff documentation outlining the technical solutions, specifications, data sources, and requirements for the development team.
- They collaborate with developers to ensure a clear understanding of project objectives, scope, and deliverables.
- They provide ongoing support and guidance to developers, addressing questions, clarifying requirements, and resolving issues as they arise.
- They act as a communication conduit between the development team and the client, keeping all stakeholders informed of progress, challenges, and decisions.
- Task Management: They work with managers to coordinate the execution of tasks in alignment with overarching organizational goals and strategies. That includes:
- Task Prioritization: They need to prioritize tasks based on project deadlines, dependencies, and importance.
- Time Management: They are responsible for managing their time effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Risk Management: Identifying potential risks associated with task execution and developing strategies to mitigate them.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitating collaboration between different teams and departments involved in task execution to ensure alignment with broader organizational strategies
- Communication: They must maintain clear and open communication with project stakeholders, including clients, project managers, developers, and other team members.
- Quality Assurance: They are responsible for ensuring the quality of their work by conducting thorough reviews and evaluations
- Hiring: They are responsible for interviewing, onboarding, and training any new team members that join their team. They may review applicants, create skills tests and report any onboarding improvements/requirements to HR for execution.
- Mentorship: They will have a team that they are responsible for. They will provide mentorship and build camaraderie within their team.
- Coordinate 1-1 Check-Ins
- Lead Performance Reviews
- Department Optimization: They will identify, strategize & document improvements that can be made to the processes, services, and deliverables that their team is responsible for. They will also ensure all updates are reported in the Change Management Log and properly implemented and communicated to the team.
- Training & Development: Design, deliver, and evaluate training programs and career development initiatives, identify training needs, and collaborate with subject matter experts to provide employees with the resources and support needed to achieve their full potential.
- Pre-Sale Support: They will also provide essential support during presale calls and early strategic discussions, leveraging their technical expertise to address client inquiries and contribute valuable insights to shape the initial stages of project planning and collaborate with Head of Delivery on pre-sale scoping efforts.

Requirements
- Proven experience as a Solutions Architect or Technical Lead with a focus on eCommerce platforms, preferably in a retail or consumer-facing industry.
- Experience with Shopify preferred
- Experience with Magento, Salesforce and/or custom platform migrations preferred
- Certification in relevant technologies or methodologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF) is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
