Job Summary:
Oversees the work and performance of clinical dietitians. Acts as liaison with physicians and other hospital departments in relation to nutrition care and services. Assesses the nutritional status of patients, translates physician ordered diets to meet individual patient needs and develops care plans. Acts as an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge/expertise, and is a leader/resource to the healthcare team.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
- Master's Degree: Required, only if eligibility for examination began on or after 1/1/24
- Five years' relevant clinical experience: Preferred
- Two years' leadership experience: Preferred
- Dietetic internship or its equivalent: Required
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Dietitian (RD): Required
Essential Functions:
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by Registered Dietitian as defined in the scope of practice, to ensure that the needs of patients are addressed. Provides nutritional care to inpatients and/or outpatients. Provides patient education and documentation.
- Completes routine food safety inspections, monitors documentation, and generates appropriate corrective action as needed. Assists with Registered Dietitian oversight of food service operations and with corporate-wide projects/initiatives as appropriate.
- Assigns Dietitians to evaluate physician's diet order for appropriateness as required by patient needs per age and medical status. Supervises and provides support to dietitian and staff. Oversees and evaluates the work performance of clinical dietitians and dietetic interns.
- Provides oversight of systems to evaluate compliance of food safety with hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agencies through regular inspections of food procurement, storage, preparation and distribution.
- Ensures ongoing competency of Nutritional Services staff. Provides continuing education and in-services to maintain appropriate knowledge and skills. Provides medical nutrition therapy, consultation or in-service when requested by physician other hospital departments.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
