This Paralegal role will support Litigation Team attorneys in (1) managing and responding to litigation and legal claims, (2) working with CarMax stores and internal CarMax departments to resolve customer legal issues, regulatory disputes, and title issues, and (3) conducting legal and factual research and project management.

What you'll do - Essential Responsibilities:

• Manage/negotiate cases and claims, work with customers and opposing attorney offices on disputes related to legal claims.
• Conduct factual and legal research and compile legal information, as directed by supervising attorney.
• Analyze and summarize information related to legal claims and make recommendations related to resolution to the supervising attorney.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, and other documents, including legal holds, for supervising attorney.
• Locate documents and prepare responses to subpoenas and other document requests for supervising attorney.
• Assist in drafting of legal documentation, including pleadings and discovery responses, as appropriate, at the direction of supervising attorney.
• Coordinate the gathering of information from various CarMax stores and departments to conduct factual analysis and in the preparation of legal documents; review legal documents to ensure necessary provisions are included prior to presenting the documents to the supervising attorney for final review.
• Develop strong relationships with CarMax stores and work with them to resolve customer legal disputes and title issues.
• Work with internal CarMax departments to manage and resolve legal claims and regulatory disputes.
• Manage special projects as directed by the supervising attorney.
• Assist in Litigation Team administration (e.g., case tracking system, coordination with service of process provider, discovery projects, etc.)
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervising attorney.

Purpose of the role

The role requires well-developed analysis and decision making, results focus, and communication skills. On a day to day basis, the Paralegal will be communicating with assigned CarMax stores to resolve elevated customer legal claims. The paralegal will analyze the facts of the claim and recommend a resolution. The role will also manage and support larger company-wide litigation matters and be required to gather documentation, communicate, and provide analysis related to those cases.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education and/or Experience:
  High school diploma required; college degree and paralegal certificate preferred. Minimum 2 years paralegal or comparable experience; 3-5 years' experience preferred.
