Assists nursing staff in the rooms with patient care by positioning, transferring of anesthetized patients, and cleaning operating rooms at the conclusion of surgical cases. Provides general non&ndashtechnical assistance to the nursing staff.

Job Duties

• Participates in activities designed to increase the productivity and efficiency of the operating room.

• Promotes a positive patient surgical experience by partnering with the surgical team to provide excellence in customer service within the surgical environment with age–appropriate responsibilities.

• Assists with the transportation of patients to and from the operating room.

• Ensures availability of instruments and supplies needed and assists with opening of supplies and instruments.

• Provides emotional support during pre–operative contact with the patient, as observed by the unit and department nurses.

• Performs effective cleaning and disinfection of the operating rooms after surgical cases

• Performs appropriate care and handling of patient specimens

• High School Diploma/GED
• Less than 1 year 6 months in a healthcare setting.
• Demonstrates mature and conscientious behavior.

• Demonstrates sound judgment and technical skills.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support – State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days

Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8–10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
