We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our dynamic R&D materials characterization team. The candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary group to investigate the properties of materials used for ocular medical devices. The overarching goal of this position is to identify material characteristics important to the performance of hydrogel contact lenses and interocular lenses. Project work will involve development of new measurement strategies and novel approaches to materials characterization, assessing method capability, establishing trends across a variety of commercial and experimental materials, and collaboration with formulation scientists to understand structure-function relationships. Expertise in materials and chemical analysis is required and the candidate should have proficiency in characterization techniques related to surface analysis, mechanical properties, chemical analysis, permeability, spectroscopy, and microscopy. Forward thinking, creativity, and careful experimentation are key aspects of this position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop novel surface and bulk analysis methods important to ophthalmic medical device applications, contributing to intellectual property, and advancing new patient benefits.

• A methodical approach that enables development and careful assessment of new characterization methods.

• Conduct independent and collaborative research of a highly complex nature.

• Utilize the scientific literature to facilitate understanding and to propose strategies for reaching project goals.

• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team composed of materials scientists, organic chemists, analytical chemists, polymer scientists, biochemists, chemical engineers, and medical professionals.

• Interact with intellectual property, legal, clinical, quality and regulatory functions to support project objectives.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer science, material science, chemical engineering, or a related discipline with an emphasis on materials and materials characterization.

• Strong laboratory skills with the ability to independently create and execute proof-of-concept experiments.

• Strong knowledge of modern analytical methods with the ability to apply these measurement techniques to novel and specialized situations.

• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.

• Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills, capable of collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

This job posting is anticipated to close on February 28, 2025, the company may however extend this time-period.

The salary for this position is $100,000. This is a two year duration based role.

Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
