With our skilled in-house carpentry, fabrication and floral teams, R. Jack Balthazar is able to envision, design, produce, and install all matter of inspired decor and execute complete space transformations for 200+ events annually across the US, and internationally. The “Staff Carpenter” Role @ R. Jack Balthazar We dream big and the ideal candidate will be a big part of making those dreams come to life. The Staff Carpenter is a hands-on role that requires technical expertise and mastery of tool use. We’re looking for self-motivated people who take pride in their work. This person should be comfortable reading and executing build plans without supervision and will be able to direct an assistant on tasks when appropriate. When projects come up that require outside the box thinking, they will be expected to contribute to our collaboration. This role is expected to carry projects from pre-build planning all the way through install and strike and will be need to be available for both shop and on-site work as needed. Responsibilities • Maintain a clean and safe work environment • Produce quality work that exceeds client expectations • Maintain shop tools • Pack tool kits for installs Skills • Ability to read and translate both hand drawn and computer generated shop drawings and create cut lists • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in hand-held and shop power tools including table saw, miter saw, routers, etc. • Extensive knowledge in industry relevant building materials and techniques including wood, laminate and plastics • A background in metalwork/welding, foam carving, drafting and/or CNC is preferred • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills with intense attention to detail Effective, reflective listening skills, with the capacity to receive and respond to feedback • Ability to prioritize tasks (and to solicit guidance when needed) in order to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment • Ability to adapt to changing situations and to adjust / pivot when needed • Ability to recognize and identify potential issues / challenges and route them to management in a timely manner • Ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses of all team members and work to put people in a position to succeed, while also pushing them to grow Behavioral Qualities • Positive attitude • Respectful to all co-workers, colleagues, clients, cohorts • Reliable, responsible, and dependable • Enthusiasm to continue professional growth and take on new challenges • Perceptiveness of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do Qualifications • 2+ years of relevant industry experience • Availability on nights / weekends / holidays • Eligibility to work in the U.S • Ability to carry 80+ lbs. • Ability to travel • Valid CADL + clean DMV record • Experience driving 26’ bobtail trucks as well as trailers • Drug Screening and Background Screen • Must be fully vaccinated with Booster Job Type: Full-time Pay: $25.00 - $33.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Referral program • Vision insurance Schedule: • 10 hour shift • 8 hour shift • Monday to Friday • Overtime • Weekends as needed Ability to Commute: • Vernon, CA 90058 (Required) Work Location: In person
