Primary Responsibilities: We are looking for a Senior Rails Engineer to join our fast-growing team. As a senior contributor, you’ll help lead the development and scaling of our Safety Cloud® platform using Ruby on Rails. You’ll work closely with a talented group of engineers, designers, and product managers to build critical backend services and APIs that power real-time vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. • Design, build, and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails applications and APIs • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features • Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability • Conduct code reviews and advocate for best practices • Participate in architectural discussions and help shape the technical roadmap • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable fixes • Integrate third-party services and APIs as needed Experience: • 5+ years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails in a production environment • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases • Experience building RESTful APIs and working with JSON and webhooks • Familiarity with background processing frameworks (Sidekiq, Resque, etc.) • Proficiency with code repositories and branching • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and testing practices • Excellent communication and collaboration skills • Passion for public safety or transportation innovation Brownie Points: • Experience with real-time systems, geospatial data, or telematics • Familiarity with AWS or cloud infrastructure • Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines • Contribution to open-source projects or technical blog posts • Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced product environment Must live in the city of Chicago! • Hybrid, Full-Time Position • Although only 2 days are required to be in-office (Tuesday/Wednesday) you are welcome to use our space to work whenever you'd like. We have an excellent neighborhood office space in the Lincoln Park area with free street parking. • Base salary of 130k - 170k per year, depending on experience • 40 hours per week • Unlimited PTO • Stock Options • Health, Dental, Vision insurance Job Type: Full-time Pay: $130,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year Benefits: • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Paid time off • Vision insurance Work Location: In person
